What sort of classical instrumental does he like : piano, guitar, violin, cello ? There are so many to chose from and you do not want to get him something he already has so snoop around his collection a bit first.

Treat him to one (or more) of the Classic FM compilation albums. That way he'll get quite a selection of what might broadly be described as popular classical music, and it will all be good quality.

If your Dad likes male choirs and brass band, then go and buy him "This Land Of Ours" by Karl Jenkins. He won't be disappointed!

For really good quality, 'famous' pieces, everyone tends to recognise, go for the Classic FM, Hall Of Fame 2000 Album - has 3 cds of very famous music on it, plus some he may not have heard of but will certainly enjoy. The Paul Potts one is good but it's 1 singer donig his debut album and not exactly ideal choice if you want a variety of repertoire, but a good easy listening album for male opera as the guy can obviously sing. Alternatively, try something like the Classical Chillout Gold Album - 4 CDs of "the most relaxing classical music of all time" - equally famous pieces but famous because they've been on soundtracks to movies as well as the popular operas and composers.
