I'm 16 years old and I've been playing the piano for about 8 years, and I want to know if anybody even likes classical music, because it's probably what I will end up doing with my life. I would love to do like, live performances and stuff but it seems nobody under the age of 30 is interested the slightest bit in instrumental music.

Oh, heck yes. For some people it takes a bit of maturity to have an appreciation for classical but honestly, people love going for an evening concert. And performers like Josh Groban and Andrea Boccelli brought a younger audience to classical. Yes, it's less popular with the under 30 crowd, but there is still an audience. Do what you do, there will be an audience, and they will find you.

And just for the record, the same could be said for jazz - it takes a little more understanding of the beauty of music to have a taste for classical and jazz and once that ear starts getting developed many turn their interest.

There are a lot of people who like classical music, you will find most teenagers who do not play an instrument will have no interest in classical music. Though you will find most of those who have been brought playing an instrument such as the piano will develop a natural liking to classical music, even if it only is the fur elise and moonlight sonata which every young pianist seems to play. .

What everyone else does or likes should not be your concern. It is what you like that counts.

No, we all just practice multiple hours per day because we hate ourselves.

That will change if / when you go to college for music. It was a real eye-opening experience for me to meet so many people interested in classical music (and jazz). I envy the teenagers who got to go to 'music high schools. ' We just hosted our pre-college piano camp at our school. . . I think it drew something like 60 kids (who all paid over $4,000 for the 3 weeks).

My point is, there are lots of people who love classical music under 30. You just haven't been to the right places to meet them yet. Maybe see about a piano camp next summer? You'd probably dig it.

Appreciating classical music requires a certain level of musical maturity. Im 21 right now but im a big fan of classical music! :) i used to be an extreme metal music fan and i used to even sing extreme metal vocals and play guitar for my band. But as i slowly got deeper and deeper into music i got attracted to classical music as i realized that classical music is so much more than metal. Its a different thing altogether and its food for the soul! So I gave up extreme metal singing and guitar and started learning how to play the classical guitar :) Its been a year since i got converted by classical & i feel great :D So there are people who love classical and if its ur dream to be a classical music performer then go for it!!! my dream is to be a classical guitar teacher, but i have a Loong way to go :( you are so lucky to have studied classical music for 8 years and u still have so many years ahead of u; i envy u!
