How to get my vocal capacity back?

How to get my vocal capacity back?

Postby Sri1234 » Mon Jun 06, 2011 4:07 pm

Hello,
I have a very specific question about my voice. I have been vocally trained in carnatic music since I was 6 and was actively singing till the age of 20. Later studies, job and other issues kept me occupied due to which I couldn't continuously practice music. As a result, I have lost the capacity and stamina to sing at a strech.
My throat begins to hurt after just 5 minutes of singing, there is no clarity, my voice is shaky and at times out of shruthi and I have definitely lost the power to sing in my original pitch ( kattai 6). I feel my voice is getting denser (I am a female) and I am faking my voice when I reach high notes.
Now, I regret for having neglected my practise sessions and get very embarassed when people ask me to sing.

Can someone please advice me how to get back to my original singing? Are there patterns to rigorously train my voice?
Singing has always been my passion and now at the age of 25, I just feel terrible for not having the same vocal abilities.

Thanks for your help.

My Advise is you should seriously try to sing Mandra stayi or Lower octave notes during early morning.Try to reach Mandra shadjam. (quite difficult , but if you practice with perseverance , it is possible) This will definitely help you improve your voice culture. This is not only my view but it has been endorsed by Musical maestros like Sri Nedunuri Krishna Murthy and Pandit Omkar nath Thakur.

All The best
